Plant Ecophysiology – NRES/AGRO 406/806

This is a 4 h credit course helps undergraduate and graduate-level students to understand what happens to a plant when the temperature rises, water becomes scarce, or atmospheric CO₂ increases? In Plant Ecophysiology, we follow these questions from the leaf to the whole plant. Students explore how photosynthesis powers growth, how water and nutrients move through plants, how hormones coordinate development, and how plants adjust when their environment becomes challenging. The course brings together ideas from plant physiology, biochemistry, agriculture, horticulture, pathology, and environmental science, but it does not stop at theory. Students get hands-on experience with the instruments plant scientists use to measure photosynthesis and plant–environment interactions in real time. By connecting what we learn in the classroom with what we can actually measure in a living plant, the course turns plant physiology into something students can see, test, and discover for themselves.
